The DrKabookenstein Show: Podcast Episode 2 – I Went to San Diego NFT Convention!!!

DrKabookenstein Show Episode 2 cover art

I got to visit the San Diego NFT Convention in San Diego, California April 8th – 10th 2022. It was a blast! I had a lot of fun and met a LOT of amazing people (as you’ll hear about in this episode). This episode also sets the stage for the interviews that I did while I was there. So you’ll be getting some episodes with live interviews from the convention itself!

I also have video of this particular episode that will be available HERE on YouTube. As of the time of this posting, it is not yet available since I’m still learning how to edit the videos (heh). It’s coming soon though, so make sure to keep an eye out! [UPDATE: IT’S AVAILABLE ON YOUTUBE NOW, CLICK THE LINK ABOVE]

Here’s a Transcript of the episode:

Welcome to the next episode of The DrKabookenstein Show. I am your host Dante Nava, also known as, you guessed it, DrKabookenstein. So this is supposed to be the first episode that I’m going to be putting up on YouTube. Hopefully it goes over well. No, no, it will be going over well. I’m a positive thinker, OK?

As one must be in all things Now I have a previous episode of this podcast on the podcasting is all over the place already and so that’s where I talked about what I’m going to be doing with this episode or with the show in general. OK, so let’s talk about that This past weekend I went to the San Diego NFT convention.

I keep wanting to call it the Comic-Con. It’s not the Comic-Con, it’s the NFT convention. So it was a whole lot of fun. I met a whole lot of really cool people, got to do all kinds of cool stuff and experience some really cool things. And I interviewed a bunch of people, huh? So I got this camera so that I’d be able to start doing this right here.

That you are looking at right now. I did this for you guys.

And so I took all my equipment with me to San Diego. I am currently based out of Phoenix. In case you were wondering, in so yeah, I went to San Diego. How many times can I say I went to San Diego. I went to San Diego. Did I tell you I went to San Diego? Yeah, I went to San Diego.

So I had a lot of fun. It was a blast. I met a lot of people. I said that a lot already, but there’s a reason I had a lot of fun and I met a lot of people. It was great. So, yeah, in case you don’t know who I am, I am I go by DrKabookenstein online it maybe.

I interviewed you while we were in San Diego today. I mentioned I had a lot of fun and met a lot of people. Yeah. So this is my foray into YouTube and podcasting and interviewing people. Pretty much. Right now, I’m setting up just what you have coming to you while I was in San Diego. Did I mention I went?Anyway,

While I was there, I got to meet some really cool people that did stuff like creating 3D art in a virtual space to music and just had a blast with it. I got to meet people who are creating games that you’re going to be making, buying, creating the Lefty’s for, and then getting to use them in game so that they can focus on the game and make the game as awesome as possible.

And that cool. So you might have like a catapult versus a laser gun against each other and they’re going to have they’re going to figure it out. I know they will I also met some folks that are creating some nifty is that their utility is experiences now experiences you know going bungee jumping, stuff like that. Those are experiences.

Zip lining. That’s cool. How about getting a chance to fly in a fighter jet, seeing the curvature of the earth from like whatever altitude you have to be at in order to do that. And then getting to go Mach two in the only privately owned jet that is out there or fighter jet that’s out there. Yeah. Yeah. These people are not playing around and really cool people to What else?

Hmm.

They had a lot of panels, and unfortunately, I didn’t get to visit very many of these panels because I was busy running around and talking to people and learning as much as I could about all the different people and projects and stuff that were out there. There is a group out there who is planning on being the CNN for the NFT world.

So if you want news about NFT’s in the NFT space, these are the people you go to There was also this project or this series that went going to San Diego was made possible by the artists, which is my own personal project. You know, I flip the bill for a good chunk of it and also thank you very, very much to my other sponsor, the Young Club, Adrian.

Hopefully you’re watching this. Thanks buddy. You guys need to check out this NFT project, the Young Bull club. Okay. Yes. Full disclosure, I am invested in it, but it’s kind of a cool project. Not kind of. It is a cool project. The utility on this project is travel perks like hotels, cruises, flights, Uber’s meals, all kinds of stuff like that.

Plus the guy, Adrian who’s creating it is also a software developer, software engineer in the solidity space. So it’s one of the things that he’s working on is being able to swap out accessories. So if you’re like, Oh, you know what? I really want those Ray-Ban sunglasses on my Bull, Oh, here, let me just go and buy them and slap them on to my, my, my Bull.

And not only that, if you had a previous accessory on there, like, I don’t know, a set of or a pair of like Guccis or Louis Vuittons or whatever, you’ve now got those sitting in your in your inventory. It’s now summer and you want to change your hat. You want to change the horns from the gold to the diamond bling bling!

It’s on there. It’s pretty freaking awesome. So you really need to check the project out. YoungBullClub.io there will be. There’ll be a link in the description, guys. Make sure to check them out. I mentioned The Otties as well. That’s my project. There’ll be a link in the description as well. Check them out at TheOtties.com.

They’re also up on Open Sea, as are the Young Bull Club Bulls plus I believe they’re minting there. He talked about pausing the men briefly, but there are still some out there available on the open market. So keep a lookout Anyway, enough with the commercials this whole project of podcasting and YouTubing. Right now I’m in my garage OK?

And this is only going to get better. This is only the beginning, guys. Hopefully when I interviewed you, you weren’t thinking I was this huge outfit I’m growing, I’m getting bigger. It’s only up from here unless I stop, which I’m not stopping. And I’m super excited to be doing this. It’s been a little while since I’ve put out my last episode, which was the first inaugural episode, but I’m really excited coming back from this from this event.

It’s charged me up. I, like I said, I met a lot of people. I had a lot of fun. Like, there was there’s these guys, the blue chips. OK, here’s the cloud. Cloud Niner, right? Cloud Niners, OK, they’re the guys who are doing the the ships or the the ships, the, the the airplane thing. And their whole thing is basically on airplanes and they want you to get involved if you don’t care.

They don’t they don’t they don’t want you, OK? So they want you to get involved. Meta ops, OK? Meta ops here. Here’s their QR code. I didn’t get a chance to talk to them too much. I’m hoping to be able to get an interview with them. If you’re watching this reach out, please. I heard AlanTheNFTGuy talking about them and in a Twitter space one time.

Who else we got here oh, yeah. Throw lights. They’re creating a metaverse rave space. These guys are here. OK, there we go. All right. A metaverse rave in VR. So you put your VR in. True, ready player one style. The book, though, not the movie because you didn’t get to see this in the movie, but in the book, there’s this OK, if you saw the movie, spoiler alert, by the way, for ready player one if you’re not if you haven’t seen it, so get to it.

It’s been a couple of years and come on, you’re in the Nifty Metaverse space. You need to watch it, bury it, read it or get the audio book. I think what is it? There’s a version where we’re it’s read by by Wil Wheaton. Yeah, Wil Wheaton. King nerd, right? No. Is that is that Kevin Smith King nerd? Anyway, so so yeah, these guys in there, they’ve got this where the dance scene is and then they’re at this big club in the middle of the space.

There’s this gravity free floating like sphere. And in the sphere is, is the was and he’s sitting here throwing down some mad beats at this party and it’s just rocking and everybody’s having a blast just like in the movie, but so much more epic because the, the great and powerful Woz [Ogg], Oz [Ogg]Woz [Ogg], Woz [Ogg] something like aww crap man who’s, who’s, who’s the guy? I can see his face.

Now, anyway, you know who I’m talking about because, you know, the character is essentially based on Steve Wozniak, but anyway, you know what I’m talking about. I hope and I think I might lose my nerd card. Now, what else I got to go to Ciao Ciao Piadina, which is from Lauren Turton’s restaurant in San Diego, or she’s a partner in the restaurant.

It’s it’s in La Hoya. Beautiful. Little space. I mean, it’s not even all that little. It’s cool. They’ve got a Vespa outside in for, like, picture of opps. It’s an awesome, awesome space. Great food, great drinks, just. Oh, man, it was awesome. OK, also, we I’ve got Josh Emison, who I also met he’s doing a project where you’re going to be able to invest in real estate, even if you don’t have tons of money to invest in real estate.

You’ve got 100 bucks or can buy $100 token. You can invest in real estate. I’ve got an interview with him. I’ve actually had an interview with Lauren, which I’m going to be posting here real soon, probably later this week. So anyway, they’re also going to be they’re also in the process of looking Josh by the way, is in the process of looking for projects, real estate projects, commercial projects to invest in so that they have stuff to lend money to for their NFT projects.

So it’s a win win, win, win, win all across the board, you know, all kinds of great, awesome stuff. I met the awesome Chris Sampson again from the Blue Chimps. The Blue Chimps they’re doing some cool stuff, man. If you need help with your your NFT project or whatever, these guys are helping to promote a bunch of people Who else?

Who else? What other projects do I have here? We got this whole pile of stuff over here that I need to go through and I need to reach out to a lot of these people, too, and say, Hey, remember me, the dork with the camera and the microphones and the non-cromulent sounds Yeah, that’s me. All right. Let’s see. I don’t remember who this is from, but I picked it up.

It’s a nation. So here you go. There’s a QR code, so hopefully you get your QR codes ready. I don’t remember specifically what that one was about. Oh, I got to take pictures with the Pastel Persons. Yes. Yeah, the Pastel Person’s. They had some some cool custom stickers made, and I got some. And here’s, here’s also they’re their card.

You know, she it’s a it’s a family friendly, NFT project. I really need to go and check this out. I just haven’t had time. It’s like Tuesday, and I’m still catching up on everything. Let’s see what else, what else I have here.

I don’t know what that one is here. Here’s a here’s a sticker from from the convention itself. How far have yeah, it was it was really cool. Let’s see some more collateral from the from the what’s it called Club. Club Niner? or Cloud Niner Excuse me. That’s that’s the fighter jet that you could potentially end up going for a ride in.

And then these guys seem pretty cool. Do you remember remember in the nineties, maybe you weren’t born in the nineties, but in the late nineties, early 2000s and the early otts, they had this this cool. I think it was cool. There’s a program called Flash and you could create cartoons and animations and stuff and, and, and, and you could create these things pretty darn easily.

I never got good at it, but that doesn’t I had other stuff going on, you know, college, girls, and I learned other stuff. So anyway, that inspired these guys to create the Stick Man. NFT project here’s the QR code. You can go check that out if you want. Put your phone up to the screen or something.

I don’t know. Anyway, the stick man there I guess are minting in later later this month so check that out. That’s a little bit of their artwork. And basically what you’re going to be able to do is go in and fight with stick people weapons and all kinds of cool stuff. They’ve already been working on the projects, so they’re not waiting to get funded in order to start the project.

It’s, it’s almost done. So like after you meant it’s a go, go, go, go, go. So, so yeah, that’s pretty cool.

Let’s see OK this is a Mandocs the they gave me some cool swag apart from this like some t shirts and stuff. There’s their QR codes and we go there again it’s going to focus on this and if you will see those. Anyway, I didn’t get a chance to interview these guys but they were pretty cool. They’re, they’re doing stuff with, with music and NFTs yeah.

Again with the Cloud Niners and the, the, the Satoshi’s desk. I really liked that project. You know, apart from those guys being really cool, the idea they’re going to be sticking these desks in various Metaverses So instead of creating their own thing like their own Metaverses, excuse me, they’re going to be portals. They’re going to be everywhere.

They’re going to be everywhere you want to be. So yeah, I don’t know. I think that’s pretty cool. I’ve got a bunch of other stuff, I think somewhere. But these are these are the people who so far I need to reach out to. I even interviewed some kids. Kids, people. Listen, if you are sitting there thinking about creating an NFT project, please do it, OK?

Think of something that you care about, that you want to put your time, your your money, your effort into do it. OK? And I see your money, too, because unfortunately, just like any other business, it takes money to make money, OK? And in that being said, though, it doesn’t always take your money to make money. OK, look, there’s a lot of projects right now.

Mine included that are starting out with a core project like a Hey, I’m raising money right now, to… Well, OK, for example, the The Otties OK, my Founders set right now. They’re their, their intent was for the price to be right around 50 bucks but with with the price of Etherium fluctuating around in each NFT is anywhere from fifty to seventy bucks.

If you buy the NFT the utility that I’m including is you get a t shirt with your nifty on it OK I will ship it to you. I don’t care if you’re in Australia I’ll ship it to you in Australia. I don’t make any money on it at that point but I don’t care I’m just trying to get my project out there.

OK, now hopefully not everybody who buys in NFT is in Australia, but if that’s the case, so be it. OK, so be it. I’ll deal with that at that point. But OK, but assuming that everybody’s out there, I should make some money on it, which I’m then going to be able to use to get some hopefully some better artwork or a proper minting dapp set up and have the project look the way that it should.

OK, that project is then going to going to help me to build on being able to create the other things that I want to do. I’m keeping some of those kind of under wraps. I’ve told a couple of people here and there and I don’t think even my wife knows about everything everywhere. OK, but there’s going to be some kids books.

The I want to do a cartoon, there’s going to be a cartoon. It’s going to happen. It’s got to we’ve we’ve talked about it. It’s my family and I are doing the project. I’m just the face of it right now. So it’s going to happen, but it just it can’t happen all at once. So if you’re sitting here thinking of, Hey, well, how do I do this?

How do I make this happen? You you need to buy some cryptocurrency like Ethereum. You can put it up on Poly on ETH for pretty much for free. You just have to exchange some Poly, some ETH into Poly so that you can you can post stuff. That’s going to cost you like a hundred bucks. You need to have some kind of some kind of software to create the art.

If you’re going to do generative art, which is taking kind of like a bass image and swapping out features based on like layers. OK, there’s people that are giving out for free. Look, here’s how you do this, OK? Hashlips on YouTube is one of the one of the gracious people that’s gone and done this. You can go grab that stuff over there and you just have to know how to put the layers together.

Photoshop is a great piece of software for doing that, but there’s other stuff out there that’s free. I’m not as knowledgeable on some of the other stuff, but like, what is it? There’s the gimp that’s free, open source there’s Photoshop, which is paid for Adobe for 50 bucks a month. You get every single piece of software that Adobe puts out that’s Photoshop, Acrobat…

If you want to create PDFs, Illustrator, Audition, which is what I’m using to create the podcast, Premiere on the video editing, Dreamweaver, you name it, they’re doing it. OK, and as far as like graphics and video and art, all that stuff, they’ve got it. You get all kinds of cool fonts and everything too. So it’s something you might want to look into, OK?

And then you just you promote the crap out of it. That’s part of the reason why I’m doing the podcast, OK? That’s why it’s sponsored by The Otties. But you know what?

The other part of the reason that I’m that I’m doing the podcast is so that I can help other projects out there that are wanting promotion, wanting some face time with somebody. And to get their word out there, get their project out there, plus, I’m learning. I’m teaching you. You’re learning, you’re hearing about it. Everybody is hearing about it in my head.

It’s a win win, win, win, win. OK, we all keep learning. We are really, really early in this space. I mean, it’s no longer in its infancy but it’s like a toddler, like an angry, hungry toddler, you know, the violent kind, that don’t want to go to bed like my kids anyway. So get into it. You know, if you’re an artist, you don’t necessarily need to make a ton of these and you’re just looking for another outlet to be able to sell your artwork.

You can sell digital copies of it, just like if you went and you did prints or there’s a lot of projects or several projects. Oh, that’s right! Kayla. I interviewed her and I’ll be talking about her project as well. She is including different tiers of NFT’s, along with one of them being the highest level of NFT where you can actually purchase the oil painting that goes with the NFT.

So you get the physical thing that goes with it. It’s pretty cool. She she’s got all kinds of cool animals that she was painting on. And during the convention, she was painting a red panda it’s really super cute. I’ve got some pictures. I’ll show you when when that comes out. So, yeah, guys, that’s the other thing that I’m going to be doing with this project.

I know I’m kind of everywhere right now. It’ll get better as I go along, but I’m also planning on using this as a long format, not just to do interviews, but also to help teach you guys. This is what NFT’s are all about. If I want to create an NFT, here’s what I got to do. Whatever you guys want to hear about to talk to me, let me know and I’ll do my best to talk more about it.

I’m also bilingual. Hablo Espanol. Y tambien pienso empesar a hablar de NFT’s en Espanol. Basically, I just said I’m also planning on doing this in Spanish, so I’ll figure out how to go and create content in both English and Spanish and put those both out there. It might not be a one to one thing. So sorry.

Disculpa, talbes no sea lo mismo que hable en Espanol que lo que en English. Pero disculpa, lla veremos que pasa we’ll see what happens. All right. So thank you for sticking with me for this long, and I hope to see you in the next episode. This will probably be the first video that you see up on YouTube.

And we’re approaching the half hour mark. Not quite there, but hey, look for more to come real soon because I’ve got a ton of stuff in the in the in the sack waiting to to get out into the into the can. So I just got to learn and learn how and figure out how to mix it down and put it all down.

All right, guys. See you soon.
